Tonight, Julie and Steven invited us over for a very fun, relaxing barbecue. We played in a band, visited their wonderful garden (and ate from it!), jumped on the futon and more! Yummy....

The Family Book (by Todd Parr)
Mama has always loved Todd Parr's books. She hasn't bought me any because they are not board books and you know how rough I can be on books because I love reading so much. Well, today, she brought me home "The Family Book" which is now one of our faves for the collection (and one we plan to buy a lot of friends for gifts). Here are the words. Not the same effect without Todd's lovely graphics, but still beautiful....
Some families are big
Some families are small
Some families are the same color
Some families are different colors
All families like to hug each other
Some families live near each other
Some families live far from each other
Some families look alike
Some families look like their pets
All families are sad when they lose someone they love
Some families have a stepmom or stepdad and stepsisters or stepbrothers
Some families adopt children
Some families have two moms or two dads
Some families have one parent instead of two
All families like to celebrate special days together!
Some families eat the same things
Some families eat different things
Some families like to be quiet
Some families like to be noisy
Some families like to be clean
Some families like to be messy
Some families live in a house by themselves
Some families share a house with other families
All families can help each other be STRONG!
There are lots of different ways to be a family.
Your family is special no matter what kind it is.
Love,
Todd

I am committed.....to the ocean and to walking!
So, tonight when Mommy came home, I put on my jacket and my shoes and gave Mommy her shoes and I was on a mission. The mission tonight was to go to the "ocean" or "water". I tried to get Mommy, Daddy and Grandma to take me this morning, but no takers. Tonight, Mommy took me and Daddy came driving behind with the extra set of clothes and a bottle of vino. What fun! (Mommy thinks that now that I have discovered "Mother's Beach" where the waves are non-existent, she and Daddy may need to take me every day. Shhh....don't tell her, but she is RIGHT!)
Also, a few nights ago, AFTER bathtime, I put on my jacket, asked Mommy to zip it, put on my shoes, gave Mommy her shoes and Grandma her shoes and off we went....not just walking, but RUNNING. I walked/ran for at least 3/4 of a mile. I am ready. Walk to Africa here I come. And, Uncle Steve, I am going to go stroller-less and walk the 2 miles with all the others. I think I can do it. I may even bring my baby in her stroller. I think she might have fun.
So, I am officially signed up and ready to go.

Grandma and Grandpa :)
Grandma and Grandpa came on Wednesday! They are here until Monday and then leave to go to a wedding, but they'll be BACK! We have had some fun at the park, the beach and just hanging at home building with my blocks, reading books and doing puzzles. Today, I made Mommy and Grandma sit at the "restaurant" at the playground and I kept bringing them different pizzas. Then, Mommy ordered a hot fudge sundae. Although I have never had one, she asked first for the ice cream, then the fudge sauce, then the whipped cream and a cherry. Each time, I went away and brought it back to her. Pretend play is so much fun!
(not too many photos of the last few days....we have been slackers with the camera!)Peek-A-Boo!

My progress in sharing with Grandpa...
Compared to the blueberry video at Thanksgiving (http://grs919.blogspot.com/2008/12/some-thanksgiving-videos.html), I am making progress!

Walk to Africa
Today, my Daddy went to the Dogromat to "wash" Mystic and Camille. Since the Dogromat was closed, he went to another mutt washing place on Lincoln called Barks and Bubbles. While there, Dr. Hamilton (my pediatrician) walked in to pass out some fliers about a "Walk to Africa" scheduled for next month. Dr. Hamilton is behind Lighthouse Medical Missions (www.lighthousemedicalmissions.com) which has been providing medical care to people in Africa since 1998. He has personally led missions several times, including at least once since I was born. He has an incredible heart which is why I am glad he is my doctor.
The Walk to Africa (www.walktoafrica.com) is taking place in Santa Monica and Mommy and I are going to participate. There is the "Adult Walk" (8 miles) or the "Children's Walk"(2 miles). I am thinking that I am good for 8 miles, but we are still deciding whether we should just go as children instead of adults. Dr. Hamilton and his team are hoping to have 1,000 people raise $100 each so that we can "walk the 8,000 miles to Africa" in one day. Mama and I are going to do our part. What's funny is Mama was just talking to Aunt Barbara this morning about walking the Breast Cancer 3 Day this morning, maybe next year again. Mama last did the walk in 2002 (and in 1999 before that). I guess instead of 60 miles, we will start with 8 (or maybe 2). Have to start somewhere, no?
